What is it?
Blood Flow Restriction Training (BFRT) is a safe and effective way for patients to increase muscle strength and size, without requiring high intensities or loads. By restricting a percentage of arterial blood flow and venous return, physiological changes occur that are similar to the body's response to high intensity training.
Use in rehabilitation
BFRT is used in rehabilitation to help patients gain muscle strength and size when high intensity loads are intolerable. It allows patients with weight bearing or lifting precautions to improve strength and muscle mass without the risk of damaging grafts or other tissue incapable of tolerating loads. This helps our DPTs bridge the gap between a patient's injury and returning to what they love to do. It is safe and effective for all ages.
